This was one of the most spectacular days. I arrived at a large delta which led to a small bluff. Beyond the bluff was the Prince of Wales strait.
The river feeding the delta was wide and deep, so I dropped my pack while looking for a safe crossing. I then hiked about 1 km to the bluff. As I climbed up to the top I saw a wide flat expanse, and what looked like a fallen cairn on the top.
As I climbed up to the top I saw a wide flat expanse, and what looked like a fallen cairn on the top. The rocks were formed in a circle with orange lichen growing on them, and there were far more rocks than a tent ring would have. In fact, it was probably an old cache.
There were three of these circles on the bluff. On the far side, down a small slope, was the Prince of Wales strait. The strait was calm - covered in large blocks of ice with dark blue water in between.
The ice crackled and made small bangs. Ducks and geese were swimming amongst the blocks of ice. I could easily make out Victoria Island on the far side.
